BDSMonday - Nontraditional Bondage

It's BDSMonday! 

Tying someone up can be easy (or really, really complicated). There are handcuffs (which I'm not a huge fan of, honestly. They're cold, uncomfortable, and leave awkward marks), leather cuffs, rope. You can get a little more creative and use belts, ribbon, ties, all sorts of things that are lying around!

But it doesn't end there!

I was thinking about alternate types of bondage last night, and my brain went straight to this: 

Side note: The Mummy is one of my favourite movies (I can watch it, Jurassic Park 1 or 3 [but not 2], or Jaws pretty much any time). 

Obviously I'm not advocating keeping people as property against their will, but I like the idea of 'bondage' that will show if you've moved without permission...and then of course you have to be punished :D

There's also mental bondage. The bottom (etc) isn't physically restrained, but they're put in a certain position and told to stay just like that...or else ;)

I've done some mental bondage, and I'd like to do more, but my wife and I haven't come up with many scenes for it. 

I'd love to hear any ideas you have along these lines, whether it's a fantasy or something you've done/heard of someone doing.

The Roommate Situation by Zoe X. Rider

Genre: M/M NA BDSM Romance

Blurb: College freshman Shane Hahn finds himself unexpectedly shuffled to a new dorm room--which is fine by him, but his over-involved mother takes one look at toothpick-chewing, motorcycle-riding Derek McClain, his new roommate, and gets on the phone with the school. The school requires that Shane be the one to file the room-change paperwork, but Shane's reluctant.

He's attracted to Derek's independence, even though that independence means Derek has to pay his own way through college, which he does by making leather products (you know: belts, wallets...bondage gear) and selling it online. Shane isn't even allowed to work while he's in school, much less join a band, which is what he really wants to do with his life. Unfortunately, his parents are holding his guitar hostage until he can prove he's taking his future seriously.

When he decides he needs a way to come up with cash--the kind his parents won't find out about--so he can buy a guitar his parents can't take away from him, he turns to Derek with what sounds like a win-win solution: he'll model bondage gear for Derek's online store photos, Derek will get more sales, and Shane will get a cut. The one thing he doesn't factor into his plan is the giddy stomach-flip feeling Derek McClain causes whenever he walks in the room--and what that might mean for them when Derek starts locking leather cuffs on his wrists.

Review: I've been curious about NA BDSM for a while, and this book seemed like the perfect way to get my feet wet. Wow, am I glad I went with this one!

Both main characters were very likeable and interesting. There were a few times that I caught myself scowling inwardly at Shane for being ungrateful when his parents are paying for his entire education, but I kept reminding myself that people can be abusive and still give you lots of things.

The sex and kink were very hot and enjoyable to read. I really liked the tentative, natural way Shane and Derek got into bondage and sex with one another.

I'm not a big fan of books written in the present tense, but that's really a personal thing, not anything negative about the writing. The story moves along at a nice, steady pace.

It ended at a good (and at least moderately happy) place, though it did leave me wanting more. I'll definitely be reading more by this author!

BDSMonday - Public Play

It's BDSMonday!

Today's topic is playing in public. First, let me be clear--for me, there are only two 'rules' for BDSM. Consent, obviously, is the first one. But the second is, don't freak out the vanilla people. Just like you (probably) don't want to know about strangers' sex lives, they (probably) don't want to know about yours!

That being said, there are a surprising number of ways to play in public or outside your home.

Some easy ones include:

- wearing a buttplug, though I wouldn't recommend doing this for more than a few hours at a time. Not only will your butt probably get sore, it's probably not good to have something in there for too long!

- if you are a penis-having person and you're into CBT or chastity play, there are many, MANY discreet objects you can wear out and about. Again, I wouldn't leave those on for an extended period, at least without learning your body's limits first

- having bondage underneath your clothes

- if I've played recently, I love feeling the bruises and other marks throughout the day, either by touching them on purpose or just finding them stimulated as I go about my business

Then there are sneakier ways that you can do right under unsuspecting noses and they probably won't notice.  I don't consider myself an exhibitionist, but I do enjoy carrying my BDSM relationship across as many aspects of my life as I can, and there is a special thrill at performing a kinky task that no one would ever guess was happening.

I really like it when my Sir orders for me at restaurants, especially if we haven't discussed it ahead of time. I usually get her drinks when we're at family members' houses, or refill her drink if we're at a restaurant and there's a pitcher or teapot at our table.

Some of them are more situational--we painted the exterior of our house this summer. One of the spots could only be reached by standing on the roof. I wanted to be tied off at least a little, so we got to do outdoor, fully public bondage! :D

Or, while we were raking, I was bent over the bag of leaves to squish the air out of it (does anyone else do this?) with my ass in the air, and she gave me a little swat with the rake. I don't think anyone walking past would have looked twice, but we had a 'tee hee' moment.

BDSMonday - Character Interview With Liam From Night Out

I was tagged to do a character interview by Elyzabeth M. VaLey. When I signed up for it, I thought I would be posting an interview with one of her characters...but I was mistaken. Seeing as it's a Monday, I decided to hit two subs with one flogger (*heh*) and interview Liam from the kinky story I have out right now, Night Out. So, without further ado, it's my great pleasure to introduce...Liam!

(This interview is mildly spoiler-y if you haven't read Night Out)

Q: How long have you and Jason been together?
A: We've been dating for three years, and we moved in together about...nine months ago. We met through a mutual friend and really hit it off. I've never eaten so well in my life. I have no idea how I survived before I met him, how I didn't starve to death.

Q: When did you 'come out' to Jason as kinky?
A: I think it was after our second or third date. We were at his house. He'd cooked us dinner--pasta, I don't remember what he called it, but it had red sauce and it was amazing--and we'd shared a bottle of wine. We definitely weren't drunk, but we weren't exactly sober either. He'd lit some candles. All the lights were off and we were sitting on his couch, listening to music. I don't remember what I said, but he playfully grabbed my wrist. And...well, I liked it. And it was pretty obvious that I liked it. So he grabbed my other wrist, and things...went from there! I never really had to say it out loud, we just figured it out together.

Q: Who makes most of the decisions for the two of you?
A: Definitely Jason! He's very particular and he likes things a certain way. Most of the time I'm not bothered by his systems, so it's not a source of conflict between us. If you mean in the bedroom...I'd say I'm slightly more of a bottom, both sexually and...kinkily? But we both switch.

Q: Were you interested in BDSM before you met Jason?
A: Yeah, I was. I hadn't felt comfortable enough with anyone I was dating before him to try anything really kinky, but I always feel completely safe with Jason. We haven't done anything really "hard core" and we're taking it slowly, but I've been able to tell him all of my fantasies, and he's told me all of his. We've tried a few of them. Some have been amazing, others...well, they're better as fantasies!

Q: What kinky activity did you want to try most?
A: I don't know if it counts, but the thought of fisting has always really turned me on. When I actually tried it, though, I found out it really wasn't my thing. I've always been curious about bondage, and that I like! I'm not sure I was quite ready for Jason's Valentine's surprise, and it's not something I would have asked for, but I can't deny that I had an amazing time.

Q: Where do you think he'll take you next year?
A: I have no idea. He works from home, so he has lots of time alone to think of all sorts of amazing, fiendish plans. It'll probably push my comfort zone a little, because that's how he is, but I trust him to come up with something mindblowing.

I won this book, and I was thrilled! It sounded really interesting and I wasn't disappointed. The mythology of the story is comfortable and familiar without seeming stale. 

I really enjoyed Herne and Tam's relationship (not just the naughty parts--but those are HOT!) Their worries and concerns about each other are very realistic and well-explored, with a satisfying resolution. 

A lovely blend of fantasy, romance and erotica, with just enough kink to make me perk up and have my mind spiralling off in interesting directions. 

I can't wait to read the others in this series (after which, I'll probably track down more of Kay's writing). 

I loved the use of antlers in the story...I might be a sucker for men with (eroticised) antlers...

Today’s question:

When you’re bound in some way (rope, handcuffs, etc.) do you try to get free or not?

While I usually -can- get free, I don’t usually try to until I’m given permission (unless the whole point of the scene is for me to try and escape…another story entirely :D).

My wife likes to be tied up occasionally, and I always grumble a little because SHE IS HOUDINI!!! The second I have the last knot tied, she escapes. I once did a -beautiful- dragonfly sleeve that took me upwards of an hour, and before I could sit back and appreciate my work…I was left with a pile of rope beside me.

A-Z Challenge: N is for Night Out

I'll have been married five years in July (July 14th if we're being specific. We're big history nerds, okay?), but Night Out was my first story with an established relationship. I was really intrigued by the theme of the anthology--basically, take a message you might find on a candy heart and run with it--but it took me quite a while to flesh that out into a story:

Liam comes home from work to find only one conversation heart left in the candy bowl. His lover, Jason, produces the other candies and tells him that the heart left in the bowl is a clue. It says, “Bite Me”. The only other clue is that they’re going out for dinner. Normally Jason is terrible at keeping secrets, and he almost always cooks for them. Liam has no idea what Jason has planned.

A-Z Challenge: K is for Kink :D

I've been a masochist literally as long as I can remember. I still have my baby blanket packed away somewhere, and if you were to look at it you'd see that one corner is all twisted and grotelated from me shoving it under my fingernails for years.

I remember watching The Muppets' Christmas Carol with my mom when I was five or so, and asking my mom why Gonzo kept being disappointed when Rizzo got hurt and he didn't. She explained that he liked pain, and I could relate to that.

I've always been into bondage--my mom used to give me her string ties (I don't even want to know why she had so many. I don't think I ever saw her wear one) to play with, and bring me locks and keys to fiddle with. I sometimes tied all of my stuffed animals to the bed, or tied myself up. I was so good with rope that someone once told me I was better at knots than their Scout Master. I once bragged that I could escape from having my hands tied behind my back, so my grandfather did. And I escaped. (He also once shut me in the garage until I learned to make a sound by blowing over a bottle. These are both good memories, oddly enough...)

I always knew more or less what I wanted; it wasn't a struggle or a discovery to realize that I was into BDSM as I got older. I cannot thank the internet enough for being around during my sexually formative years, bursting with kinky information. I can't even imagine how lonely those pre-internet days must have been for budding kinky people.

(Fun fact: the first time I heard the term 'BDSM', I was watching The Matrix with my (first, now ex) girlfriend. When we got to the club scene, she turned to me and said, "Ew, BDSM!" I asked her what that meant, and I don't remember what she told me but she made it sound really scary and definitely something to be avoided. She also told me about how she didn't like reading BDSM LotR fanfic with bondage and stuff, and I was like, "...yes...terrible. Tell me more, so I can be sure to avoid it..." *shifty eyes* And then we had lots of (what I would consider kinky) roleplays.
